It is a prequel centred on Subhash Chandra Bose and the transformation of a cheerful drama artist into a spy carrying the burden of guilt.
That guilt appears to be the emotional core of the film. Karthi plays Bose as someone who begins as a happy-go-lucky performer before entering the dangerous world of espionage, with the consequences of his choices eventually affecting him physically and psychologically. The trailer deliberately keeps the reason behind his guilt as a mystery, giving the story a stronger hook beyond its spy-thriller packaging.
The other major attraction is SJ Suryah, who plays a character claiming to be a fan of Bose while eventually standing against him. That makes the conflict more interesting than a straightforward hero-versus-villain setup. Suryah brings his trademark style and swagger to the role, but there is also an unsettling quality to his character’s motivation that could make him one of the film’s biggest talking points.
Sam CS’s score adds to the tension, while Malavika Mohanan and Ashika Ranganath are part of the principal cast. Produced by Prince Pictures, Sardar 2 is releasing worldwide on September 10, with Annapurna Studios handling the Telugu release.
